Local foundations have a crucial role to play in racial healing in the U.S., according to a report from MacArthur grantee National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP). The report looks at Philanthropy’s role in reparations for Black people, specifically in the area around Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. NCRP looks at the ways philanthropy has benefited from or caused racial inequality with eight case studies in four sectors: employment, healthcare, housing, and media. The report notes the need to directly acknowledge and address harms to eventually repair relationships. It aims to serve as an invitation to other local foundations to examine their histories and act work toward racial healing and accountability.
