In Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the first step to reduce nuclear risk—even if from accidents or miscalculations—is a ceasefire. Noting that reducing nuclear risks is of interest to all nations, grantee Nuclear Threat Initiative and its partners in the Euro-Atlantic Security Leadership Group made a statement calling for a return to diplomacy in Ukraine. Resolving conflict with respect for human rights requires dialogue, diplomacy, and negotiations and a commitment to end the unacceptable loss of human lives.
